CAIRO, Sept 18 (Reuters) - EgyptAir resumed its flights to
the United States on Tuesday after a nearly week-long ban on all
non-U.S. carriers following last week's terror attacks on the
United States, airport sources said.
EgyptAir flight 987 to New York took off early on Tuesday
with 319 passengers amid tight airport security checks
supervised by U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
representative Frank Harris.
``These procedures encompass placing baggage on X-ray
machines before hand-checking them, asking passengers questions
about them, then sealing them with adhesive tape,'' said Hamdi
Refaat, head of EgyptAir security.
EgyptAir had said on Friday it was cancelling all its
U.S.-bound flights until the United States lifted restrictions
against non-U.S. carriers.
The FAA lifted restrictions on Monday on some non-U.S.
carriers and airports including Cairo International Airport and
state-owned EgyptAir.
